KATHMANDU: Nepal’s two-wheeler market has seen a surge in customer activity with the start of Dashain. Showrooms are crowded with customers collecting previously booked motorcycles and scooters, as well as those making new purchases.

Sunday marked Ghatasthapana, the first day of Dashain, and many customers visited showrooms to buy new vehicles. Showrooms of major two-wheeler brands across Kathmandu witnessed heavy footfall.

Motorcycle showrooms in Naxal and Teku, areas popularly known as Kathmandu’s auto hub, were busy from early morning. Showrooms of Royal Enfield, Triumph, Yamaha, TVS, Hero and Honda saw a large number of customers.

Some showrooms had long queues of customers waiting to take delivery of their vehicles. Buyers reportedly had to wait for hours, while showroom staff remained busy handing over motorcycles to customers.

Dashain and Tihar are considered the peak season for Nepal’s automobile market. According to dealers, nearly a quarter of annual sales can take place during the festive period.

Helmet shops have also seen a rise in customer visits alongside the rush at motorcycle showrooms.
