KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has extended the deadline for loan repayments by borrowers and businesses affected by floods in the Bhotekoshi and Budhi Gandaki river areas.
The central bank has directed banks and financial institutions to allow eligible borrowers to pay principal and interest installments due by the end of Asoj (mid-October) by the end of Poush (mid-January 2027).
The relief applies to businesses, projects and enterprises directly affected by flooding in the Bhotekoshi and Budhi Gandaki river areas. It also covers businesses involved in importing or exporting raw materials, semi-finished goods and finished products through the Rasuwa customs point, as well as other affected borrowers in the designated areas.
However, the extension will not apply automatically to all borrowers. Banks and financial institutions must assess each borrower’s overall financial condition, including income, sales, cash flow, reserve funds, the impact on import and export activities, and the actual use of the loan.
Based on this assessment, lenders may extend the repayment deadline until the end of Poush (mid-January 2027). only for borrowers found to be facing difficulties in paying installments due by the end of Asoj (mid-October).
