KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Province government has unveiled plans to digitize transportation services and regulate ride-sharing platforms.

Presenting policy and program of the province government for the fiscal year 2025/26, Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota announced that all transport-related services will be moved online.

This includes the issuance and verification of driver’s licenses, vehicle registration certificates and pollution test certificates. These services will be integrated with national identity cards and verified using QR codes.

The provincial government also plans to formally regulate ride-sharing services. A new law will be introduced to oversee operations of ride-sharing services and incorporate them into the province’s revenue system.

The policy envisions a safer, more reliable and better-organized public transportation system.

By digitizing services and enforcing stronger regulatory measures, the provincial government aims to improve service delivery and increase internal revenue.
