KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Provincial Government has introduced special tax and penalty exemptions for the vehicle and transport sector through the budget for fiscal year 2026/27.
Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning of Bagmati Province, Prabhat Tamang, presented the provincial budget at the Provincial Assembly meeting and announced the exemption provisions.
The government has decided to provide a 100 percent discount on penalties for public vehicle owners whose vehicles are 20 years old or older if they clear outstanding vehicle tax and renewal fees by January 14, 2027.
After the payment, the vehicle registration certificate will be canceled and removed from official records.
The budget statement said, “A 100 percent discount on penalties related to vehicle tax and vehicle registration certificate renewal fees has been arranged. The registration certificate of such vehicles will be canceled and removed from the records.”
Similarly, public vehicle owners registered in Bagmati Province who want to cancel the registration of vehicles older than 20 years can receive the same penalty exemption by paying due taxes and renewal fees to the concerned Transport Management Office by January 14, 2027.
The province has also included provisions for transport-related training centers, factories, workshops, and reconditioning centers. If such organizations have not renewed their registration according to existing laws, they can renew their registration by paying the latest applicable renewal fee within the deadline.
