KATHMANDU: The five-door Maruti Jimny, launched in India in June 2023, has achieved a significant milestone, with over 102,000 units sold by April 2025.
The compact off-roader has become a global hit with nearly 75% of total sales coming from exports. Unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo 2023 in New Delhi, the Jimny was designed to appeal to lifestyle SUV buyers. Built on a robust body-on-frame platform, the Jimny has earned a global reputation as a compact yet highly capable off-roader.
The three-door Jimny, known for its rugged looks and off-road performance, already enjoyed a cult following. To cater to the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki built a more practical five-door version that can comfortably seat four adults.
The Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 105 hp and 134 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Though the Jimny’s compact size might not suit buyers looking for a larger road presence, its authentic off-roading capabilities and distinctive design continue to attract adventure seekers.
The Jimny is available in both manual and automatic options in Nepal, with prices starting from Rs 6.399 million.
Just five months after its Indian debut, Maruti Suzuki began exporting the five-door Jimny to markets including Nepal, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. Countries like Mexico, Australia and South Africa have responded especially well to the model. The response has been overwhelming in Japan, with Suzuki receiving over 50,000 orders in just four days. This even prompted a temporary halt in new reservations due to overwhelming demand.
In Nepal, the Jimny carries the legacy of the iconic Suzuki Samurai. Older Japan-made Samurai models and the three-door 2005 Jimny still have a strong presence on Nepali roads and are valued for their durability and adventurous spirit.
CG Motocorp, Suzuki’s official distributor in Nepal, offers only the five-door version. The Jimny is available in both manual and automatic options in Nepal, with prices starting from Rs 6.399 million.
