KATHMANDU: Bentley has unveiled the Torcal, its first fully electric vehicle. It marks the British luxury carmaker’s entry into the EV market.
The new electric SUV produces up to 888 PS (metric horsepower) and offers a WLTP-rated range of up to 600 km. It is the fourth model in Bentley’s lineup, joining the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga.
The Torcal is designed, engineered and built at Bentley’s facility in Crewe, England. It measures around five meters long and offers a 460-liter boot along with a 90-liter front trunk.
The SUV is available in two variants. The standard Torcal produces 821 PS and 1,194 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 mph.
The more powerful Torcal S produces 888 PS and up to 1,350 Nm of torque with Launch Control. It can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 162 mph.
Bentley has also developed a dedicated artificial sound for the Torcal. Called the Bentley Dynamic Symphony, it uses sounds recorded from real musical instruments and changes according to vehicle speed and torque demand.
The Torcal uses two permanent-magnet synchronous motors. One motor powers each axle. It also gets a locking rear differential and all-wheel steering.
Power comes from a 113 kWh battery pack with an 800-volt electrical system. The battery uses 192 lithium-ion pouch cells. Bentley offers
Bentley has not yet announced the price or delivery schedule of the Torcal.
