KATHMANDU: A Bailey bridge constructed over the Phalakhukhola River at Betrawati has come into operation, restoring direct road connectivity between Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts.
Vehicle movement across the bridge opened on Sunday morning. The bridge was installed with the support of the Nepali Army.
The direct road connection between the two districts had been disrupted for around one and a half months after floods in the Bhotekoshi River washed away the permanent bridge at Betrawati on August 26.
The newly installed Bailey bridge is 73 meters long. Before its construction, a new road track was opened along a 300-metre cliff near Uttar Gaya in Nuwakot to connect the road to Betrawati.
With the bridge now operational, vehicles can travel up to the Betrawati side of Syafrubesi.
Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal said preparations were also underway to install a Bailey bridge at Syafrubesi.
According to the minister, approach roads have been prepared on both sides of the river to build the bridge’s foundations. Construction work at Syafrubesi is expected to gather pace.
