KATHMANDU: BYD’s upcoming refreshed Atto 2 electric SUV has been spotted in China with major updates, including a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) system and optional LiDAR-based driver assistance technology.
The Atto 2, known as Yuan UP in the Chinese market, has been seen with a redesigned charging port location. The charging port has moved from the front fender to the rear side, similar to a conventional fuel door design.
The biggest changes are expected under the body. The updated model will shift from a front-wheel-drive layout to a rear-mounted motor-based RWD system. It is expected to offer 100 kW and 120 kW rear motors.
The refreshed Atto 2 is also expected to get a longer wheelbase. The wheelbase has reportedly increased from 2,620 mm to 2,770 mm, providing more cabin space and improved rear passenger comfort.
The new model will feature front MacPherson struts and multi-link rear suspension across variants. This setup is expected to improve ride comfort and handling.
BYD is also preparing an optional LiDAR sensor for the Atto 2. The technology will support advanced driver assistance features through BYD’s DiPilot system.
The refreshed Atto 2 is expected to continue with 42 kWh and 52 kWh LFP battery options in China. It could offer CLTC ranges of 410 km and 505 km, respectively.
The BYD Atto 2 has emerged as one of the best-selling electric car models in Nepal.
