KATHMANDU: Chinese new energy vehicle maker BYD is preparing to launch two new EV models — the Atto 2 compact SUV and the Seagull hatchback — in the Nepali market. The announcement comes shortly after the company opened bookings for the Sealion 7, a premium electric SUV.
According to Cimex Inc, the official distributor of BYD in Nepal, both the Atto 2 and Seagull models have already left China and are on their way to Nepal. As per the company, the Atto 2 model coming to Nepal will feature a 51.3 kWh battery pack and will use BYD’s Blade Battery technology.
The vehicles are being introduced as mass-selling products, targeting a broader consumer base.
“We are planning to unveil the new Atto 2 SUV soon,” an official of Cimex Inc told MeroAuto. “The vehicles are on the way to Nepal. However, given the weather and other factors, it is difficult to say exactly when they will arrive. However, we aim to begin sales in about a month’s time.”

According to Cimex Inc, both the Atto 2 and Seagull models have already left China and are en route to Nepal.
Positioned between the Dolphin hatchback and the Advance variant of Atto 3, the Atto 2 is expected to offer a balance of affordability and advanced features. Since the Atto 2 is being sold at a price point close to the Dolphin in international markets, it could be priced competitively in Nepal as well.
The Atto 2 is expected to rival other compact electric SUVs such as the MG S5 and Kaiyi X3 Pro, and the Nammi 06 hatchback.
The Seagull, on the other hand, has gained global attention as one of the most affordable electric hatchbacks. Aimed at urban families, this entry-level car from BYD will compete directly with models like the Tata Tiago EV and Kaiyi e-Qute 04, in Nepal.
The addition of these two models is expected to further strengthen BYD’s position in Nepal, where the brand has already seen considerable success with the Atto 3 and Dolphin.
