BYD unveils great Tang flagship D-segment SUV; launch set for March 5

KATHMANDU: BYD has officially revealed the first images of its new D-segment flagship SUV, the BYD Great Tang. The model is scheduled for release on March 5.

The announcement was made by Lu Tian, ​​General Manager of BYD Dynasty Network Sales Division, who shared the official visuals on social media.

Based on earlier data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the BYD Great Tang measures between 5263 mm and 5302 mm in length, 1999 mm in width, and 1790 mm to 1800 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 3130 mm and comes with a 7-seat layout.

The SUV is expected to offer top speeds of 240 km/h or 250 km/h, depending on the variant. Curb weight ranges from 2640 kg to 2970 kg, while gross weight ranges between 3245 kg and 3575 kg.

The Great Tang rides on 20-inch and 21-inch wheel options, including 265/45R21, 255/50R20, and 275/45R20 tires. It features a front track width of 1715 mm and a rear track width of 1725 mm.

The model comes standard with a panoramic sunroof. Its height varies based on suspension setup. The air suspension version stands at 1790 mm, while the non-air suspension version measures 1800 mm. Adding rear bumper decorative elements increases the overall length to 5302 mm.

The SUV is powered by a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. The pure electric variant will use BYD’s Super e-Platform with a 1000V high-voltage architecture.

The system supports a 10C flash charging battery and up to 1000A charging current. Charging power is expected to reach up to 1000 kW under suitable conditions.

BYD has also started large-scale deployment of its Megawatt Flash Charging Piles. The Great Tang will be among the models compatible with this megawatt fast-charging technology.
