KATHMANDU: The Jaecoo J5 SUV from Chinese automaker Chery has been spotted testing in Pune, India. The midsize SUV is expected to be introduced in the Indian market through JSW Motors as part of its partnership with Chery,according to Rushlane.
JSW Motors has already confirmed plans to launch the Jetour T2 SUV in India. The Jaecoo J5 could follow as another model under the same collaboration.
The Jaecoo J5 measures 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. It is available in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and pure-electric versions.
In terms of design, the SUV features styling inspired by the Range Rover Sport. It has a large rectangular front grille with vertical slats, slim LED headlamps, a strong shoulder line, and narrow LED taillights. The EV version replaces the traditional grille with a black panel featuring Jaecoo lettering.
Inside the cabin, the Jaecoo J5 comes equipped with a 14.8-inch portrait infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Key features include ventilated and heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8-speaker Sony sound system, panoramic sunroof, 540-degree camera, and ADAS.
The hybrid version is powered by a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine paired with a 1.83 kWh battery pack. The system produces 221 BHP and 295 Nm of torque. The electric version uses a 58.9 kWh battery and offers a claimed driving range of 402 km on a single charge.
In Nepal, the electric version of the Jaecoo J5 is already available through SPG Automobiles.
