Chinese NEV sales rankings in September 2026: BYD leads

KATHMANDU: Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) makers reported strong sales in September 2026, with BYD leading the market by a wide margin. Leapmotor ranked second, followed by Changan’s Nevo brand, according to Chinese media reports.

BYD sold 456,713 passenger vehicles globally in September. Its sales included 273,143 battery electric vehicles and 183,570 plug-in hybrid vehicles. The company exported 180,700 vehicles during the month.

BYD’s cumulative sales for the first nine months of 2026 reached 3,078,490 units.

Leapmotor delivered 105,656 vehicles in September, up 59 percent year-on-year. Around 27,000 units were sold overseas during the month. Its cumulative deliveries reached 665,539 units.

Changan’s mainstream NEV brand Nevo recorded 45,607 deliveries in September.

Xpeng delivered 41,256 vehicles globally, up 5 percent year-on-year. Its cumulative sales reached 284,367 units, including 118,390 vehicles delivered in the third quarter.

Xiaomi delivered 40,000 vehicles in September, including more than 10,000 Skynomad SUVs. Its January-September sales reached 269,000 units.

Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), which includes Aito, Luxeed, Stelato, Maextro and Shangjie, delivered 37,490 vehicles in September. Its cumulative deliveries reached 367,229 units.

Nio delivered 37,408 vehicles during the month. Nio brand sales stood at 21,318 units, while Onvo and Firefly delivered 8,763 and 7,327 units, respectively.

Zeekr delivered 37,216 vehicles globally in September, up 103.85 percent year-on-year. Its cumulative deliveries reached 288,404 units, up 100.84 percent.

GAC Aion sold 35,494 vehicles in September, up 21.91 percent year-on-year. The figure includes sales of the Aion and Hyptec brands.

Li Auto delivered 31,817 vehicles in September, taking its cumulative sales to 293,436 units.

Changan’s Deepal brand sold 30,185 vehicles in September. Its cumulative sales reached 252,213 units, up 8.59 percent year-on-year.

BAIC NEV sold 24,080 vehicles in September, up 17.24 percent year-on-year. All of these vehicles were sold under the ArcFox brand. Its cumulative deliveries reached 163,376 units.

Lynk & Co delivered 18,493 vehicles in September. Its sales for the first nine months of 2026 were down 19 percent year-on-year.

Dongfeng’s premium brand Voyah delivered 13,025 vehicles in September. Its January-September deliveries reached 115,481 units, up 19 percent year-on-year.
