KATHMANDU: The demand for affordable cars has been growing in Nepal, particularly in the Rs 3 million to Rs 4 million price range.
The ongoing price competition has pushed several models that were previously priced above Rs 4 million into this segment. New models are also entering the market with competitive pricing.
Both the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo and NADA Auto Show have highlighted the growing competition in this segment. Buyers now have more choices than before.
With several models available at similar prices, choosing the right car can be difficult. Price, features, safety, range, practicality, size and brand value are some of the key factors buyers should consider.
Here are four models that stand out as value-for-money options below Rs 4 million.
Nammi Vigo
The Nammi Vigo is one of the strongest options for buyers looking for an EV below Rs 4 million. MAW Vriddhi has introduced a lower-priced Vigo E2 variant at Rs 3.599 million during the NADA Auto Show. The regular price after the show is set at Rs 3.799 million.
The Vigo is available with 44.94 kWh and 51.87 kWh battery options. The larger battery version offers a claimed range of around 350 km. The model uses a 99 kW electric motor.
The Vigo also stands out for its feature list. It gets a 12.8-inch infotainment screen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 360-degree camera.
Other highlights include a 167 kW DC fast-charging system with 3C charging technology, wireless charging, Wi-Fi connectivity and a heated and ventilated driver’s seat.
The SUV also gets six airbags and Level 2 ADAS features. Adaptive cruise control, hill hold, traction control and other safety systems are available.
Arcfox T1
The Arcfox T1 is another strong option in the sub-Rs 4 million segment. Laxmi Motorhub has launched the model in two variants. The LV2 is priced at Rs 3.296 million, while the LV3 costs Rs 3.596 million.
The T1 measures 4,337 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width and 1,573 mm in height. It has a 2,750 mm wheelbase and 181 mm of ground clearance.
The Nepal-spec T1 gets a 70 kW electric motor producing 170 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 42.3 kWh LFP battery. The model offers a claimed WLTP range of 310 km.
DC fast charging can take the battery from 30% to 80% in around 25 minutes.
Inside, the T1 gets a 15.6-inch HD touchscreen, six-speaker audio, voice control and Apple CarPlay. It also gets heated and ventilated seats.
Safety features include cruise control, automatic parking and lane departure warning. ABS, EBD, ESP, four airbags and front and rear parking sensors are also available.
Chery Q
The Chery Q is one of the newest options in this price range. Pioneer Moto Corp has introduced the electric hatchback in Nepal in Comfort and Premium variants.
The regular prices are Rs 3.449 million and Rs 3.599 million, respectively. During the NAIMA offer, the prices were reduced to Rs 3.099 million and Rs 3.299 million.
The Q gets a 41.2 kWh battery and a 90 kW electric motor. It uses a rear-wheel-drive system and offers a claimed range of up to 400 km.
The EV supports up to 85 kW DC fast charging. The battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in around 16 minutes.
The cabin gets a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 540-degree surround-view camera and modern connectivity features. It also offers V2L functionality.
Practicality is another strong point. The Q has 375 liters of boot space, which can be expanded to around 1,450 liters with the rear seats folded.
The model also comes with more than 20 ADAS functions, making it one of the better-equipped options in this price range.
Tata Punch EV
The Tata Punch EV remains a strong choice for buyers who value brand reputation, service reach and practicality.
Sipradi Trading has introduced the facelifted Punch EV at a starting price of Rs 3.399 million. The model is available with updated features and styling.
The Punch EV is available with 30 kWh and 40 kWh battery options. Depending on the battery, it offers a claimed range of around 275 km to 365 km.
The EV supports DC fast charging and can charge from 20% to 80% in around 26 minutes. Tata also claims that a 15-minute charge can provide up to 135 km of range.
Inside, the Punch EV gets a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. Wireless charging, ventilated seats, ambient lighting and connected-car technology are also available.
Safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, tire pressure monitoring and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.
The Punch EV also benefits from Tata’s established brand presence and Sipradi’s nationwide sales and service network.
These are not the only choices in the segment. The BYD Atto 1, Proton e.MAS 5, Kia Syros EV and MG Windsor EV are also worth considering.
The Proton e.MAS 5, for example, is priced at Rs 3.299 million for the Prime variant and Rs 3.699 million for the Premium variant. The Kia Syros EV has also entered the segment with an introductory price of Rs 3.59 million.
