KATHMANDU: Honda is developing a new electric scooter for the Indian market. The upcoming model is expected to be based on the J1H platform.
It has been almost a year since Honda launched the Activa e: and QC1 electric scooters in India. However, sales remained weak, forcing the company to stop production of both models in November.
Despite the setback, Honda is continuing its EV plans. Reports suggest the new e-scooter is being developed using lessons learned from the Activa e: and QC1 projects.
The upcoming scooter will be heavily localized. This is expected to help Honda keep prices competitive in the mass market.
The model could be launched by the end of this year. Honda is also said to be working on another electric scooter on a different platform.
That model is expected to be ready by 2027. It may be introduced in international markets in 2028.
