KATHMANDU: Electric vehicle (EV) sales among India’s leading carmakers have remained at a similar pace over the past six months, reflecting steady but moderate growth in the market.
According to data released by FADA Research, a total of 99,041 electric cars were sold in India between August 2025 and January 2026. While India is yet to witness a major EV surge, the country’s top three brands; Tata Motors, MG, and Mahindra have maintained consistent sales momentum during this period.
Tata Motors retained its leadership position in the EV segment. The company sold 41,186 units over the six-month period, accounting for 41.58 percent of the total EV market share.
MG secured the second position. Backed by China’s SAIC and India’s JSW Group, MG recorded sales of 25,197 electric vehicles, capturing 25.44 percent of the market during the review period.
Mahindra ranked third, supported by strong demand for models such as the BE.6 and XEV 9e. The company sold 20,383 EVs from August 2025 to January 2026, holding a 20.58 percent market share.
Together, these three brands accounted for nearly 88 percent of total EV sales in India during the six-month period.
Other brands reported significantly lower volumes. Kia placed fourth with 2,694 units sold, followed by BYD with 2,460 units and Hyundai with 2,349 units.
In the premium segment, BMW sold 1,922 EVs, while Vietnamese brand VinFast recorded 1,233 units. Mercedes-Benz sold 471 units, and Tesla delivered 257 units during the same period.
Meanwhile, Worls’s largest car manufacturer BYD reported sales of 224 EVs in December and January combined.
