KATHMANDU: The JAECOO J5, known for its ‘mini Range Rover’ design, has become more affordable in Nepal with the introduction of the J5 Pro.
SPG Automobiles, the authorized distributor of OMODA and JAECOO in Nepal, has introduced the J5 Pro at a special price of Rs 4.799 million. The price is available to the first 100 customers under the company’s special scheme.
The previous JAECOO J5 was priced at Rs 5.699 million. This means the new Pro variant is Rs 900,000 cheaper than the earlier model. The main reason for the lower price is the smaller battery pack.
Smaller battery, lower price
The earlier J5 came with a 58.9 kWh battery. The new J5 Pro gets a 50.7 kWh battery.
The smaller battery helps bring down the price, but it also means buyers get less battery capacity than the previous model. The J5 Pro is aimed at customers who want the J5’s design, performance and features at a lower price.
No change in motor power
The reduction in battery size has not affected the motor output. The J5 Pro continues to use a 155 kW electric motor.
The motor produces 288 Nm of torque and drives the front wheels. This gives the compact electric SUV strong performance for both city driving and highway use.
Premium cabin and features
The J5 Pro also retains a well-equipped cabin. It gets an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Other features include a panoramic glass roof, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 50W wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate and a 360-degree camera.
These features give the J5 Pro a more premium feel than its price suggests.
Strong safety package
Safety is another strong point of the J5 Pro. It comes with six airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist and an advanced driver assistance system.
The ADAS package includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Can JAECOO J5 handle Nepal’s roads?
The J5 Pro has 185mm of ground clearance. This should be enough for normal city roads and many rough road conditions.
It also comes with a full-size spare tire. This can be useful on longer trips where finding a tire repair or replacement service may not always be easy. The SUV also offers a 480-liter boot.
11-year warranty
The J5 Pro comes with an extended warranty of up to 11 years or 240,000 kilometers, subject to the company’s terms and conditions.

The biggest gain is the price. Buyers can now get the J5 package for significantly less than the previous J5.
The motor power, key features, ground clearance and overall design remain strong. However, buyers give up some battery capacity by choosing the Pro variant.
For customers who do not need the larger battery and want a well-equipped electric SUV at a lower price, the J5 Pro offers a more affordable way into the JAECOO range.
