KATHMANDU: There is a price difference of around Rs 700,000 between the Jaecoo J5 and J5 Pro available in Nepal under the Omoda/Jaecoo brand.

The company opened bookings for the J5 Pro at the NAIMA Mobility Expo at a regular price of Rs 5.159 million. However, it offered the model to customers who booked during the expo for Rs 4.799 million.

The regular J5, which has been on sale in Nepal for some time, is priced at Rs 5.699 million. It was offered at Rs 5.499 million during the expo. Both models now have revised prices under the Dashain festive offer.

Under the festive offer, the J5 Pro gets a cash discount of Rs 300,000, bringing its price down to Rs 4.899 million. The regular J5 gets a discount of Rs 100,000 and costs Rs 5.599 million.

The two variants have the same exterior design, dimensions and motor output. Both use a 155 kW electric motor that produces 288 Nm of torque. The motor drives the front wheels.

Both models measure 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,650 mm in height. They have a 2,620 mm wheelbase, 185 mm ground clearance and 480 liters of boot space.

Why is there a big price difference?

The main reason for the price difference is the battery size and driving range. The J5 currently sold in Nepal comes with a 58.9 kWh battery, while the newer J5 Pro gets a smaller 50.6 kWh battery.

According to the company, the J5 Pro can travel up to 405 km on a single charge, while the J5 offers a claimed range of 461 km. This means buyers pay around Rs 700,000 more for the J5 to get a larger battery and around 56 km of additional claimed range.

There is little difference between the two models in terms of safety and other features. Both get six airbags, ADAS, a 540-degree camera, heated and ventilated front seats and dual-zone air conditioning.

For buyers looking for a lower-priced option with similar hardware and most of the same features, the J5 Pro offers a smaller battery and lower claimed range. Its battery should be sufficient for short and regular city trips.

However, buyers who frequently travel on highways may find the larger battery and longer claimed range of the J5 more useful.
