KATHMANDU : JAECOO is preparing to expand its J5 line-up in Nepal with the introduction of a new variant featuring a smaller battery pack.
The compact electric SUV, often compared to a mini Range Rover for its design, made its Nepal debut at last year’s mobility expo. It received a positive response from buyers and recorded strong initial sales before supply constraints affected availability.
According to SPG Automobiles, the authorized distributor of JAECOO in Nepal, limited production was the main reason behind the slowdown in imports.
The company initially launched the J5 at Rs 6.099 million, offering a promotional discount of Rs 400,000 that reduced the price to Rs 5.699 million. It later made the discounted price the official retail price.
Industry data shows that 212 units of the J5 have been imported into Nepal in less than a year. After a temporary supply gap, the model is expected to return to the market during the upcoming auto show.
SPG Automobiles is now preparing to introduce a new entry-level variant with a 50.7 kWh battery pack, aimed at making the J5 more accessible ahead of the festive season.
The new variant will be powered by the same 155 kW front-wheel-drive electric motor as the existing model.
The current J5 sold in Nepal is equipped with a 58.9 kWh battery, paired with the same 155 kW motor that produces 288 Nm of torque.
The company has yet to disclose the new variant’s driving range, features or pricing. More details are expected closer to its official launch.
