KATHMANDU: Mahindra is on track to close 2025 as India’s second-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, overtaking Hyundai and Tata Motors for the first time. The strong performance comes on the back of consistent SUV demand and a growing electric vehicle portfolio.

According to vehicle registration data from the Vahan portal, Mahindra has sold around 581,000 units in 2025 so far. In the first eleven months of the year alone, the company registered 574,657 units, marking an 18 percent year-on-year growth.

By year-end, Tata Motors is expected to finish third with around 552,000 units, while Hyundai, which has long held the second position, is projected to slip to fourth place with approximately 550,000 units.

Maruti Suzuki is set to continue as the market leader, with registrations totaling about 1.75 million units.

Mahindra’s rise has been driven by a strong SUV lineup introduced over the past few years, along with increasing traction in electric vehicles. Models such as the Scorpio, Thar, and XUV700 delivered steady volumes throughout the year.

The Thar has emerged as Mahindra’s second-highest-selling SUV, with the five-door Thar Roxx contributing about 65 percent of total Thar sales. The Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic continue to be the brand’s top sellers, while Mahindra’s Born Electric range accounted for around 7 percent of overall sales.
