KATHMANDU: Sales of large-capacity motorcycles in Nepal have surged in 2025, driven mainly by lower prices after local assembly began. Motorcycles that were once heavily taxed during the tenure of former Finance Minister Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada are now seeing strong demand as prices have become more accessible.

According to customs data, 14,565 units of motorcycles above 300 cc were imported into Nepal as of December 15, 2025. This segment is generally considered the big bike category in the Nepali market.

Despite the presence of several global brands, the market is overwhelmingly dominated by Royal Enfield, which accounts for about 88 percent of total imports in the 300 cc and above category.

Out of the total imports, Royal Enfield alone brought in 12,772 units. The brand, represented by Alpha Automotive in Nepal, sells popular models such as the Classic 350, Hunter 350, Meteor 350, and Himalayan.

Royal Enfield has further strengthened its position over the past three years by starting local assembly in Nepal and expanding its dealer network.

Triumph emerged as the second-largest player in the big bike segment. The British brand imported 1,248 units during the first eleven and a half months of 2025.

Triumph motorcycles in Nepal are sold by Hansraj Hulashchand & Company, which currently offers the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. These models have gained attention for bringing a premium brand into a relatively affordable price range.

Other brands also recorded limited but notable imports in the big bike segment. Bajaj, through Hansraj Hulashchand & Company, imported 354 units, mainly comprising the Dominar 400 and Pulsar NS400.

CFMoto brought in 105 units, led largely by the premium 450 MT adventure motorcycle. KTM imported 72 units of the 390 Adventure, while Honda brought in 12 units of its CRF series motorcycles.

TVS remained a minor player in the segment, importing just 2 units of the RTR 310, as per customs data.
