KATHMANDU : Indian electric commercial vehicle brand Montra Electric has launched the first batch of its Super Auto electric three-wheeler in Nepal.

Hipco Trading, the authorized national distributor of Montra Electric in Nepal, has started sales of the Super Auto at a price of Rs. 864,900.

According to the company, the Super Auto has been engineered with extensive testing on Nepal’s roads and terrain, along with feedback from the local distributor. The development has also considered the specific road and geographical requirements of Nepal.

The company says the tax and customs incentives provided by the government for electric vehicles compared with internal combustion engine vehicles can provide economic benefits for drivers and passengers switching from petrol-powered three-wheelers to electric vehicles.

The Montra Electric Super Auto is powered by a 9 kWh battery pack and a PMSM electric motor. The company claims it delivers 60 Nm of torque, which it positions as among the best in its segment.

The electric three-wheeler offers a claimed driving range of up to 150 km on a full charge and has a top speed of 55 kmph.

The Super Auto can be fully charged in around four and a half hours. The company says its multiple drive modes make it easier to adapt to different loads and road conditions.

These drive modes are designed to provide smooth power delivery and reduce the jerks commonly experienced in conventional gear-based vehicles.

The Super Auto features ergonomic dual-tone seats designed with both passengers and the driver in mind.

It also gets an efficient windshield and roof design, along with increased headroom and legroom. According to the company, these features make the electric three-wheeler comfortable even for longer journeys.

Speaking at the launch event, Hipco Trading Director Himanshu Golchha said Nepal’s roads are the backbone of the country’s economic development, while the country has long paid a significant economic cost through fuel imports.

He described the arrival of the Super Auto as a first step towards reducing dependence on imported fuel and cutting pollution.

Golchha said continued promotion of electric mobility across the country, supported by such partnerships, would help Nepal’s transport sector progress in line with the aspirations of Nepali consumers.

TI Clean Mobility Chairman Arun Murugappan said Montra Electric’s entry into Nepal reflects the company’s long-standing belief that engineering excellence should be applied to real-world requirements based on local needs.

Company Managing Director Jalaj Gupta said Montra Electric has established itself as a leading player in India’s rapidly growing electric commercial vehicle sector.
