KATHMANDU: Competition intensified in Nepal’s small electric hatchback segment in 2025, with brands such as Tata, Wuling, BYD, Leapmotor, Dayun, and Kaiyi competing for market share. According to import data, a total of 1,520 units were brought into the country in this segment during the year.
BYD emerged as the clear leader, driven by strong demand for the ATTO 1. Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., the authorized distributor, imported 830 units between September and December alone, giving BYD a dominant 54.6 percent market share in the segment.
Tata ranked second with the Tiago EV, which continued its steady performance in the Nepali market. Sipradi Trading imported 395 units during the year, securing around a 26 percent share of the small EV hatchback segment.

In third place, Kaiyi’s e-Qute, distributed by Laxmi E-Mobility and Go Automobiles, recorded imports of 161 units, accounting for 10.59 percent of the segment. Some of these imports included two-door variants.
Other players had a limited presence. The Leapmotor T03, imported by Shangrila Motors, saw 74 units enter the market, while CG Motors imported 60 units of the Dayun electric hatchback. These models hold approximately 5 percent and 4 percent market share, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Wuling Bingo did not record any imports in 2025, despite earlier market interest.
Overall, import figures indicate that BYD currently holds the strongest position in Nepal’s small EV hatchback market, with Tata maintaining a solid second place, while other brands continue to test demand in this growing but highly competitive segment.
