KATHMANDU: The second-generation BYD Atto 1 has arrived at dealerships in China ahead of its official launch. The updated electric hatchback is expected to feature faster charging, improved dimensions and advanced driver assistance technology.

The model is sold as the BYD Seagull in China. The new Atto 1 features a 95 kW electric motor mounted on the rear axle, producing 127 hp.

It will be available with two battery options: 30 kWh and 39.2 kWh. The claimed driving range is 320 km to 420 km under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

One of the key highlights is its flash-charging technology, which can charge the battery from 10% to 97% in around nine minutes under compatible charging conditions.

The second-generation model measures 4,205 mm in length, 1,810 mm in width and 1,570 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2,650 mm, making it 425 mm longer than the current generation.

The exterior features semi-hidden door handles, black 16-inch wheels and a floating-roof design. The car will be available in six colors, including orange, green, white, pink, blue and gray.

Inside, the new model gets a two-spoke steering wheel, a central touchscreen that also serves as the instrument display, wireless phone charging and physical control buttons. It also features an electrically operated front trunk.

The new Atto 1 supports BYD’s DiPilot 300 driver assistance system. However, the display unit seen at dealerships in China does not have a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, which is associated with the system’s advanced assisted-driving functions.

The final price has not yet been announced. The model is expected to be priced below USD 14,915 in China, according to Chinese media reports.

The launch date and pricing of the second-generation model have not yet been announced. Details about its availability in Nepal are also awaited. In Nepal, BYD vehicles are distributed by Cimex Inc.
