KATHMANDU: Tata Motors’ upcoming Tata Safari EV has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time in India.

The electric SUV will compete with the Mahindra XEV 9S in the three-row EV segment.

The Safari EV retains a design similar to the internal combustion engine (ICE) Safari. It carries the same body shell, connected taillights, roof spoiler, roof rails and shark-fin antenna. The test mule was also seen with side steps.

The model is expected to be based on Tata’s Acti.ev+ platform. It will likely share key underpinnings with the Tata Harrier EV, including an independent multi-link rear suspension setup.

Powertrain details are yet to be officially confirmed. However, reports suggest the Safari EV may come with two battery options, 65 kWh and 75 kWh.

It is also expected to offer both single-motor front-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations, similar to the Harrier EV.

With testing now underway, the Tata Safari EV is moving closer to its official global debut in the growing three-row electric SUV segment.
