KATHMANDU: Traffic movement on the BP Highway has been suspended after flooding in the Roshi River damaged temporary diversions at multiple points. Authorities stopped vehicle movement after rising water created safety risks along the route.
Police said floodwater entered the temporary tracks built through the river area and caused damage. Due to continued flood risk, the administration has urged drivers not to travel through the BP Highway until further notice.
Heavy rainfall on Saturday afternoon increased concerns over road safety. Following the situation, security agencies halted traffic movement from around 3:30 PM.
According to District Police Office Dhulikhel, the affected section stretches from Katunjey in Namobuddha, Kavrepalanchok, to Mangaltar in Roshi.
Vehicles heading towards the highway are currently being held at key entry points. Traffic has been stopped at Kavrebhanjyang in Dhulikhel and Nepalthok in Sindhuli.
The Chaubas-Nepalthok section had already suffered major damage during last year’s floods and landslides. Since then, transport movement was being managed through temporary riverbed roads and diversions.
The Division Road Office Bhaktapur said permanent road reconstruction work is currently ongoing in the damaged area. Authorities are expected to reopen the highway only after weather and road conditions improve.
