KATHMANDU: Traffic along the BP Highway has resumed after temporary diversions were built on sections damaged by floods and landslides that occurred on September 21, 22 and 23.
Shubharaj Neupane, head of the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, Kathmandu, said the road became partially operational on Friday afternoon and will open for two-way traffic from Saturday morning.
A diversion has been constructed in the Kavrepalanchok section by redirecting the Roshi River, which had washed away about four kilometers of road. Around two dozen machines have been mobilized to build the temporary route.
Roads were damaged in Katunje, Charsaybensi, Chiuribas, Mangaltar (Bokxikuna), Kaldhunga, Piple (Upper), Piple (Lower), Manti (Upper) and Manti (Lower) in Kavre. Similarly, roads were damaged in Baluwa, Aapghari and Nepalthok (suspension bridge) in Sindhuli. Repair works began on Monday, with embankments rebuilt and potholes filled.
The BP Highway connects Kathmandu with the districts of Bagmati, Madhesh and Koshi provinces.
