KATHMANDU: MG has confirmed that the upcoming MG 07 will be one of the first production models to use Momenta’s new R7 intelligent driving system. The announcement was made during the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, according to Chinese media reports.

The new system combines a reinforcement learning-based world model with the Xheart X7 AI chip. MG and Momenta say the setup is designed to compete with advanced driver-assistance systems such as Tesla FSD V14.

MG Brand Division General Manager Chen Cui said the MG 07 will offer the same R7 system used in vehicles priced above around USD 43,900.

This means MG plans to bring high-end intelligent driving features to a more affordable segment. He added that the system is expected to deliver performance above its class, although no benchmark figures were shared.

Momenta CEO Cao Xudong said the R7 system is based on a world model using reinforcement learning. He claimed it is comparable to Tesla FSD V14 at the system level.

The company says it has collected more than 100 million km of driving data. It also claims to have over 1 million long-tail training scenarios.

Momenta added that its vehicle fleet equipped with the system is expected to grow from around 80,000 units to 200,000 units by the end of 2026.

According to Momenta, post-training model updates can be completed in two to three hours. Full training cycles take several days. This could allow weekly software improvements.

The MG 07 features a low-slung fastback design with frameless doors, coupe-style styling, and integrated LiDAR hardware.
The model was first seen during road testing in China earlier this year. It is expected to play a key role in MG’s next-generation NEV lineup focused on electrification and intelligent driving.

The cabin will also feature a large language model-based system developed under SAIC’s AI ecosystem.

MG’s domestic sales in China have shown strong growth in recent months. In March 2026, the brand sold 18,003 units, up 80 percent year-on-year.

Final production specifications and launch timeline for the MG 07 have not been announced yet.
