KATHMANDU: Suzuki has been spotted testing a new prototype of the Suzuki Jimny in snowy conditions, hinting at a possible electric version in the future, according to media reports.
The test mule was seen with a closed front grille, which has sparked speculation that the model could be battery-powered. This type of grille design is commonly used in electric vehicles.
In terms of styling, the prototype keeps the Jimny’s signature boxy shape. It continues with short overhangs, flared wheel arches, and a clamshell bonnet. However, the EV version could feature a revised front fascia with new horizontal LED DRLs.
The front bumper appears familiar in design and includes round LED fog lamps.
Technical details have not been confirmed yet. If launched as an EV, the Jimny is expected to use a dual-motor setup for all-wheel-drive capability.
However, battery weight could be a key challenge. The Jimny is known for its lightweight construction, which plays an important role in its off-road performance. A heavier battery pack may affect that advantage.
