KATHMANDU: Ather Energy has confirmed that it will unveil its first mass-market electric scooter on August 29 during the fourth edition of Ather Community Day in Bengaluru, India.
The new scooter will be the first model based on the company’s new EL platform, which has been developed to improve scalability, versatility and manufacturing efficiency. The platform is designed to support multiple future models across different price segments.
Test prototypes of the upcoming scooter, expected to be called the EL01, have already been spotted on public roads. Unlike Ather’s sporty 450 series, the new model adopts a more conventional design with a longer wheelbase and a wider seat to offer better comfort and everyday practicality.
The EL platform supports battery packs ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh and uses a swingarm-mounted electric motor. This flexible architecture is expected to allow Ather to offer multiple battery options in the future.
The scooter is also expected to feature telescopic front forks, a single rear shock absorber, a front disc brake and a rear drum brake.
The upcoming launch marks Ather’s entry into the high-volume mass-market electric scooter segment, where it will compete with rivals such as TVS, Bajaj, Ola Electric and Hero MotoCorp.
Currently, other electric scooters are available in the Nepali market. The upcoming affordable model is also expected to arrive in Nepal soon after its launch in India.
