KATHMANDU: Nepal’s electric vehicle market is increasingly shifting towards more affordable models. EVs priced between Rs. 3 million and Rs. 5 million are currently attracting strong customer interest.
However, the Rs. 7-8 million segment still has several premium electric SUVs. MG is competing in this segment with two models: the MG S6 and the MG IM6.
The MG S6 is priced at Rs. 7.199 million, while the MG IM6 costs Rs. 8.199 million. There is a Rs. 1 million difference between the two models. However, both SUVs offer different strengths in terms of performance, range, technology and comfort.
MG S6: strong range and value
The MG S6 stands out for the performance and range it offers at its price. It gets a 77 kWh battery pack paired with a 180 kW electric motor.
The rear-wheel-drive SUV offers a claimed range of up to 530 km on a single charge.
The S6 measures 4,708 mm in length, 1,912 mm in width and has a 2,835 mm wheelbase. It also offers 195 mm of ground clearance and a 674-liter boot capacity.

The cabin gets a digital instrument cluster, a large infotainment display, a head-up display, a premium audio system and a wireless charging pad. It also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other comfort features include a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control and a panoramic roof.
Safety features include MG Pilot ADAS, seven airbags and a 360-degree camera.
MG IM6: more premium and technology-focused
The MG IM6 sits above the S6 as a more premium and technology-focused electric SUV. It costs Rs. 8.199 million, or Rs. 1 million more than the S6.
The IM6 comes with a 75 kWh battery pack and offers a claimed range of around 450 km on a single charge.
It is larger than the S6, measuring 4,904 mm long and 1,988 mm wide. Its 2,950 mm wheelbase also provides more cabin space for passengers.

One of its key features is four-wheel steering. Unlike conventional cars, the rear wheels can also turn according to driving conditions. This makes the large SUV easier to maneuver and park in tight spaces.
Inside, the IM6 gets a massive 26.3-inch infotainment display, a premium audio system with 20 speakers, wireless charging and a large glass roof.
The front seats are heated and ventilated, while the steering wheel also gets a heating function.
The SUV also comes with a long list of ADAS and safety features. These include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, auto hold, hill-hold assist, hill-descent control and a driver monitoring system.
The MG S6 and IM6 are aimed at different types of buyers despite being from the same brand.
The MG S6 makes more sense for buyers looking for strong range, performance and features at a lower price. The IM6, meanwhile, targets buyers willing to spend more for a larger cabin, premium features and advanced technology.
Both models compete with electric SUVs such as the XPeng G6, Deepal S07, Leapmotor C10 and BYD Sealion 7.
With competition in this price range facing pressure following Nepal’s latest EV tax changes, MG has positioned both SUVs aggressively. The S6 offers value, while the IM6 focuses more on premium features and technology.
