KATHMANDU: Tesla has increased the prices of two Cybertruck variants by $5,000 in the US. The company quietly updated its online configurator on August 24 without making any changes to the truck’s specifications.
The Dual Motor AWD now starts at $74,990, up from $69,990. The Premium AWD has also increased from $79,990 to $84,990.
The top-spec Cyberbeast remains priced at $99,990.
The Dual Motor AWD continues to offer a claimed 325-mile range, 7,500-pound towing capacity and a 0-60mph time of 4.1 seconds.
The price increase comes despite weak demand for the electric pickup. Tesla’s Cybertruck production line at Gigafactory Texas has a planned annual capacity of up to 250,000 units.
However, the company is currently selling fewer than 20,000 Cybertrucks annually. Production has been reduced to avoid excess inventory, while around 3,000 Cybertrucks are reportedly sitting in US inventory.
The latest price increase also reduces the gap between the Premium AWD and Cyberbeast from $20,000 to $15,000.
Tesla has changed Cybertruck pricing several times over the past year. The company previously offered a Dual Motor AWD version at $59,990 for a limited period before returning the price to $69,990.
The latest increase brings the starting price of the Dual Motor AWD to $74,990, despite no changes to its specifications.
