KATHMANDU: Hyundai Motor India is preparing to launch a new compact electric SUV by the end of 2026.
The company confirmed the timeline during its 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul. Hyundai Motor India Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg also said the new EV is expected to debut before the end of the year.
The upcoming model will be Hyundai’s new entry-level electric SUV for India. It is expected to compete with models such as the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
The electric SUV will be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) platform. It will be offered with standard-range and long-range battery options.
Hyundai will initially use battery cells supplied by Svolt. The company plans to shift to cells supplied by Exide once local production is ready.
According to Garg, Hyundai decided to use Svolt cells initially to avoid delaying the launch.
The new EV will strengthen Hyundai’s electric vehicle portfolio in India as the company prepares to introduce multiple new models over the next few years.
