KATHMANDU: At a time when Chinese EVs dominate Nepal’s passenger vehicle market, the Mahindra Bolero Neo continues to build a different identity. It focuses less on premium features and more on durability and performance on difficult roads.

The Bolero Neo is designed for rural roads, hilly roads and rough surfaces. It is also suited to muddy and uneven roads during the monsoon. Unlike many urban-focused SUVs, its main strength is its ability to handle challenging road conditions.

The Bolero Neo has a modern exterior, but its character remains that of a traditional Mahindra SUV. It is powered by a 1.5-liter mHawk 100 diesel engine that produces 100 PS and 260 Nm of peak torque.

The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a rear-wheel-drive system. The maximum torque is available between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. This helps the SUV handle uphill sections, loaded driving and low-speed travel on rough roads.

The Bolero Neo is built on a body-on-frame chassis. It uses a third-generation chassis derived from the Mahindra Scorpio. This construction gives it a more rugged character than conventional urban crossovers.

Its rear-wheel-drive layout, strong chassis and suspension are among its key strengths on rough roads. The SUV also features Multi-Terrain Technology (MTT). The top variant gets a mechanical differential lock, which improves traction on slippery and uneven surfaces.

The differential lock helps the rear wheels maintain traction when one wheel loses grip. However, the Bolero Neo is not a four-wheel-drive SUV. It remains a rear-wheel-drive model with a mechanical traction system designed to improve performance on difficult surfaces.

The Bolero Neo is also a seven-seat SUV. This makes it suitable for families as well as customers who regularly travel with passengers in rural and hilly areas.

In Nepal, the Bolero Neo is sold by Agni Incorporated. The N8 variant is priced at Rs. 5.3 million.
