KATHMANDU: Jaguar has unveiled the production version of its Type 01 electric vehicle, marking the first production model under its new design direction. The luxury electric vehicle is set to enter the market as a 2028 model.
The Type 01 follows the Type 00 concept unveiled in 2024. It carries a bold design with a long hood, sharp lines and a low roofline. The vehicle measures 5.2 meters in length, making it around 150 mm longer than the Tesla Model S.
The long front section is inspired by Jaguar’s iconic E-Type. Despite its size, the hood houses only one of the three electric motors, with the other two positioned at the rear.
The three motors produce a combined 1,016 horsepower. The EV can accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h in 3.1 seconds.
The Type 01 is equipped with a 120 kWh battery and an 850-volt electrical architecture. It offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 644 km.
The electric vehicle supports DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. Jaguar claims the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes. The system can also add around 322 km of range in 13 minutes.
The Type 01 gets a camera-based rear-view system instead of a conventional rear window. The setup provides a digital view of the area behind the vehicle.
Inside, the EV features a minimalist dashboard with limited physical controls and a central 7-inch interface. Other features include massage seats, cabin air purification and selectable fragrances.
The Type 01 will be priced from $172,000. It will be Jaguar’s first production vehicle developed under the brand’s major rebranding announced in 2024.
Jaguar says its new design approach is intended to create a distinct identity for its future vehicles, moving away from the brand’s traditional styling.
