KATHMANDU: Kia India is testing the next-generation Sonet compact SUV ahead of its expected launch in 2027. New spy images taken during high-altitude testing reveal changes to the exterior design, while further updates are expected in the cabin and technology.

The latest test vehicle appears to feature a split LED headlamp setup, with the main headlights positioned lower on the front fascia. The bonnet also appears to have a new clamshell-style design.

At the rear, the SUV gets redesigned LED tail lamps with a more angular shape. Unlike the current model, the new version does not appear to feature a connecting light strip. The outside rear-view mirrors (ORVMs) and alloy wheels also appear to have new designs, although it is unclear whether these are final production components.

The next-generation Sonet is expected to move to Kia’s K1 platform, which also underpins the Syros. The new platform could offer better cabin packaging and additional interior space.

The interior is also expected to receive major updates. Possible additions include a dual-screen infotainment setup, 360-degree cameras and Level 2 ADAS.

Under the hood, Kia is likely to retain the existing engine options. These include a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. A strong hybrid powertrain could also be introduced at a later stage.
