KATHMANDU : Nepal’s automotive market is entering one of its busiest launch periods, with more than a dozen new passenger vehicles arriving ahead of the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026, which begins on August 11.
Models that have already arrived in Nepal include the MG Majestor, Tata Punch facelift, Tata Tigor facelift, Leapmotor B03, BAIC BJ30 Hybrid, Chery QQ3, iCAUR V27, Wuling Eksion, and Bingo.
Other recent arrivals include the new-generation Hyundai Venue, Nissan Tekton, Wuling Darion, Air Mini, and the sixth-generation Toyota RAV4. Recently launched models such as the GWM Ora 05 and Proton e.MAS 5 will also be showcased at the expo.
The Hyundai IONIQ 9 and facelifted Kia Seltos are expected to be among the highlights, with the IONIQ 9 making its official Nepal debut. Additional launches, including the Arcfox T1, Mahindra XEV 9e, and the Jetour brand, are also expected.
Less than two weeks after the NAIMA expo, the NADA Auto Show 2026 will bring another round of launches. Tata Motors is expected to unveil the all-electric Sierra, while Changan Nevo Q05, the updated Nammi Box EV, and a new Forthing SUV are also likely to debut. The M-Hero brand is also expected to make its Nepal debut during the show.
The unprecedented number of new models is creating challenges for both buyers and dealers.
For consumers, the growing number of Chinese EV brands means more choices than ever before. While many offer attractive designs, competitive pricing and are backed by established local distributors, comparing products is becoming increasingly difficult.
Several models are entering Nepal soon after their global debut, while others have yet to establish a significant international sales record, making purchasing decisions more challenging.
Dealers are facing similar pressure. With dozens of new models competing in the same price segments, differentiating one product from another has become increasingly difficult. Intense competition is also squeezing pricing strategies, while a single misstep could weaken a brand’s position in the market.
With the festive buying season approaching and two major auto shows taking place within weeks of each other, the coming month is expected to be one of the most competitive periods Nepal’s automotive industry has experienced.
