KATHMANDU: Audi and SAIC Motor will deepen their partnership to jointly develop future models under their new China-focused brand, according to Reuters.
The two companies said four new models will be launched in China in the coming years.
Audi and SAIC had introduced the new EV brand in 2024. The brand uses only the Audi name and does not carry the company’s traditional four-ring logo.
The companies will also jointly establish an innovation and technology center in Shanghai.
The move comes as German automakers expand development and production efforts in China amid falling sales and intense competition from domestic brands.
The first model under the new partnership, the Audi E5 Sportback, was launched last year. The model has recorded sales of around 10,000 units so far.
The E5 Sportback accounted for a major share of Audi’s first-quarter EV sales in China. It is also part of the brand’s strategy to attract younger buyers in the world’s largest auto market.
