KATHMANDU: Audi is planning a new rugged electric SUV that could compete with models like the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Audi CEO Gernot Dollner hinted at the development during the company’s annual media conference. While he did not officially confirm the project, he suggested that Audi is capable of expanding its lineup into the rugged SUV segment.
The upcoming model is expected to be a premium off-roader and could become a flagship product in Audi’s future lineup. It is likely to target the US market, where demand for large and capable SUVs remains strong.

Reports suggest the SUV could be based on platforms linked to Volkswagen Group’s new Scout Motors models, including the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup, with possible production in the United States.
Audi is also preparing to launch the Audi Q9 later this year, which will be its largest and most luxurious SUV yet, primarily developed for the US market.
The new off-road SUV, if approved, will help Audi enter a profitable segment currently dominated by a few premium players, while also serving as a technology showcase for future models, writes Autocar.
