KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Province Government has decided to retain the existing annual vehicle tax rates for the fiscal year 2025/26, according to the Economic Bill, 2025, presented alongside the provincial budget.
While the Bill proposes hikes in vehicle transfer consent fees and temporary registration charges, it has kept the annual road tax rates unchanged.
According to the existing provision, annual tax rates for private petrol and diesel cars, jeeps, and vans are categorized based on engine capacity.
Given below is the annual tax rate structure for private diesel/petrol vehicles as per engine displacement (CC):

Up to 1,000 cc: Rs 22,000

1,001 to 1,500 cc: Rs 25,000

1,501 to 2,000 cc: Rs 27,000

2,001 to 2,500 cc: Rs 37,000

2,501 to 3,000 cc: Rs 50,000

3,001 to 3,500 cc: Rs 65,000

Above 3,500 cc: Rs 70,000
For electric private vehicles, which are taxed based on peak motor power (in kilowatts), the annual rates are as follows:

Up to 50 kW: Rs 5,000

51 to 125 kW: Rs 15,000
-
126 to 200 kW: Rs 20,000
-
Above 200 kW: Rs 30,000
Private motorcycles and scooters are taxed as per engine displacement (CC), with the following annual rates:

Up to 125 cc: Rs 3,000

126 to 150 cc: Rs 5,000
-
151 to 225 cc: Rs 6,500
-
226 to 400 cc: Rs 12,000
-
401 to 650 cc: Rs 25,000
-
Above 650 cc: Rs 35,000
