KATHMANDU: Chinese new energy vehicle brand BYD has sold a total of 8,554 electric cars in Nepal over the past five years. The brand’s official distributor, Cimex Inc., imported this volume between 2021 and the end of 2025.

During this period, BYD introduced multiple models and gradually expanded its presence across the country.

The journey began with the All-New e6, which was the first BYD model sold in Nepal. The e6 has now been replaced by the M6. Over time, BYD expanded its lineup with models such as the Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, Sealion 7, Atto 1, and Atto 2.

At present, BYD offers the widest range of electric passenger cars in the Nepali market. Cimex Inc. has also built a strong sales and service network both inside and outside the Kathmandu Valley, helping establish BYD as a leading EV brand in Nepal.

In 2021, Cimex imported 25 units, all of which were the All-New e6. In 2022, total sales reached 177 units, including 167 units of the e6 and 10 units of the Atto 3. Sales grew significantly in 2023, driven mainly by the Atto 3 and Dolphin. That year, the company imported 85 units of the e6, 1,532 units of the Atto 3, 551 units of the Dolphin, and 1 unit of the Seal, totaling 2,169 units.

In 2024, BYD recorded its highest annual sales. The company imported 2,068 units of the Atto 3, 1,355 units of the Dolphin, 4 units of the Seal, and 101 units of the M6. Total sales for the year reached 3,528 units. The Atto 3 remained the brand’s best-selling model.

In 2025, BYD introduced three new models: the Sealion 7, Atto 2, and Atto 1. Although sales of older models declined slightly, the new models performed strongly. The Atto 2 became the highest imported model of the year with 1,072 units. It was followed by the Atto 1 with 830 units. The company also imported 636 units of the Atto 3, 535 units of the Dolphin, 271 units of the Sealion 7, and 141 units of the M6. Total sales for 2025 stood at 3,485 units.

In terms of cumulative sales from 2021 to 2025, the combined e6 and M6 models account for 519 units. The Atto 3 is the highest-selling BYD model in Nepal, with 4,246 units sold since its launch in 2022. The Dolphin, launched in 2023, has recorded 2,441 units in imports, making it another strong performer in the hatchback segment.

The Seal sports sedan has seen limited demand, with only 5 units imported so far. Among the newly launched models, the Sealion 7 has reached 271 units, while the Atto 1 and Atto 2 have recorded 830 and 1,072 units respectively.
