KATHMANDU: India has provided an additional 232 vehicles to Nepal in preparation for the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5.
The vehicles were formally handed over on Thursday during a program held at the Ministry of Home Affairs. Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, transferred the vehicles to the Government of Nepal.
On the same occasion, 50 vehicles were also handed over for the Nepal Army.
With this latest batch, the Government of India has provided a total of 538 vehicles to Nepal under grant assistance for election-related purposes. Earlier, 61 vehicles had been delivered in the first phase.
All vehicles were transported to Kathmandu via the Birgunj border point. The Government of Nepal has exempted customs duties on the imported vehicles.
The vehicles provided by India will be used by Nepal Police, the Nepal Army, the Election Commission, and other government agencies to support election operations.
The support is aimed at strengthening logistical capacity and ensuring smooth management of the upcoming electoral process.
