KATHMANDU: India has cleared a new regulatory framework for the use of E100 fuel in transport vehicles. The approval allows 100% ethanol to be used as an official fuel option in the country.

Nitin Gadkari confirmed that he recently signed the final file approving the regulations. He said the move legally authorizes the use of pure ethanol in vehicles.

The decision is a major step towards reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels. It also supports India’s push to expand domestic biofuel production.

The announcement comes shortly after the launch of E100-compatible vehicles in India. These include the Maruti Suzuki WagonR Flex Fuel.

Two-wheelers are also entering the flex-fuel segment. Models such as Hero Splendor+ and Hero HF Deluxe have been developed with flex-fuel capability.

With the new rules, India is expected to accelerate the adoption of ethanol-powered vehicles and expand alternative fuel infrastructure across the country, according to ET.
