KATHMANDU: Dirt motorcycles are gaining popularity in Nepal. Demand has increased with the growth of off-road riding and adventure tourism.
Earlier limited to a small group of riders, dirt motorcycles are now preferred by young riders, adventure enthusiasts, travel vloggers, and off-road clubs.
Their ability to handle hills, gravel roads, forest trails, and remote routes has made them a practical choice. Riders involved in adventure touring are choosing dirt motorcycles for better control in difficult terrain.
Dealers say sales are rising as interest in trail riding, off-road racing, and exploration trips grows. Many roads in hilly and Himalayan regions remain unpaved. Standard commuter and premium motorcycles are not suitable for such conditions.

Dirt motorcycles are designed mainly for off-road use. They feature high-torque engines, lightweight aluminum or steel frames, long-travel suspension, high ground clearance, and off-road tires. These features help riders maintain stability on mud, gravel, steep climbs, and uneven trails.
Most dirt motorcycles are low-capacity models. However, they generate strong torque, which helps during steep climbs and rough off-road riding. They also offer a comfortable riding experience on challenging routes.

Design features that improve dirt bike comfort
Lightweight frames help riders maintain balance during off-road riding. High ground clearance protects the engine on rough and uneven terrain.
Large off-road tires provide better grip on mud, gravel, and slippery surfaces. Slim seats make it easier to stand and control balance while riding. Long-travel suspension absorbs shocks from jumps and potholes, reducing rider fatigue.

The upright and wide handlebar position supports a comfortable riding posture. An ergonomic design allows easy weight transfer for better control in difficult sections.
The dirt motorcycle segment continues to grow as more riders explore off-road travel in Nepal.
