KATHMANDU: NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal (NADA) has been permitted to hold its annual general meeting only on the condition that it includes the election of a new executive committee.

The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, on Tuesday published an election schedule and directed NADA to proceed with the meeting accordingly.

NADA had earlier called its 47th general meeting for December 24 without including an agenda to elect a new working committee, despite its statute requiring leadership elections every two years.

Following this, a group of dissatisfied members filed a petition seeking to halt the meeting, prompting administrative intervention.

In its directive, the DAO stated that since the general meeting was announced without a proposal for electing a new executive committee, the meeting can only be held after publishing a formal election schedule.

The administration has also ordered NADA not to move forward with its proposal to convert the association into a federation, stating that the move is not in line with existing laws.

“The general meeting scheduled for December 24, 2025, must include the election of a new executive committee as required by the organization’s statute. As the published agenda did not include this provision, the meeting should proceed only after issuing an election schedule. Furthermore, the proposal to convert NADA into a federation is not legal and should not be acted upon,” the DAO’s order stated.

Meanwhile, eight members of NADA’s executive committee, including Senior Vice President Akash Golchha, have written to Chairman Karan Chaudhary demanding the cancellation of the general meeting scheduled for today.

They warned that if the meeting is held despite an ongoing legal dispute, the chairman and General Secretary Surendra Kumar Upreti would be personally responsible for the consequences.

The group has also accused the chairman of calling the general meeting for personal benefit rather than organizational interest, alleging that the event was linked to his hotel, The Plaza. They further claimed that the organizers would be held accountable for all related expenses.
