Five electric SUVs available under Rs 5 million

KATHMANDU: The entry of Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) has sparked fierce competition in the country’s compact SUV market, particularly in the Rs 4–5 million price bracket.

Thanks to intense competition among automakers, features previously seen only in premium vehicles, such as panoramic sunroofs, large infotainment screens, 360-degree cameras, airbags and autonomous driving assist are now available in standard models.

Compact SUVs would cost Rs 5–7 million in the domestic market until about a year ago. Growing competition, however, has pushed prices down, with new models now starting as low as Rs 4 million.

Here are five midsize compact electric SUVs currently available in Nepal for under Rs 5 million:

1. MG S5 Luxury
Launched five months ago, the MG S5 Luxury is now available at a discounted price of Rs 4.99 million. Paramount Motors, the official distributor of MG in Nepal, has offered a Rs 250,000 discount on the model. The S5 Luxury comes with a 49.1 kWh battery and a 99 kW rear-wheel-drive motor, which delivers a range of 340 km when fully charged. The SUV is 4,476 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,730 mm. It features independent rear suspension and 180 mm ground clearance.

2. Leapmotor B10
Unveiled at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo, the Leapmotor B10 is priced at Rs 4.99 million. It features a 160 kW motor and a 56.2 kWh battery, and offers a driving range of 420 km (WLTP). The crossover is 4,515 mm long and has a 2,735 mm wheelbase and 180 mm ground clearance.

3. Deepal S05 Plus
Launched last month, the Deepal S05 Plus starts at Rs 4.99 million with an introductory discount of Rs 100,000. The SUV features frameless doors, flush handles and premium interiors. It has a 99 kW motor paired with a 56.1 kWh battery, and offers a range of 400 km when fully charged. It is 4,620 mm long, and has a wheelbase of 2,880 mm and ground clearance of 175 mm.

4. BYD Atto 2
BYD introduced the Atto 2 compact SUV at the NADA Auto Show. The car is available in a single variant priced at Rs 4.39 million. Powered by a 100 kW motor and a 51.13 kWh battery, it offers a WLTP range of 345 km. The SUV stands out with its 200 mm ground clearance, 8-in-1 electric powertrain, cell-to-body technology, digital key and app connectivity, among other features.

5. NAMMI Vigo E2+
Dongfeng’s new energy vehicle brand NAMMI has launched the Vigo E2 and E2+ at Rs 3.89 million and Rs 4.19 million, respectively, each with a Rs 100,000 launch discount. The E2+ features a 51.87 kWh battery and a 99 kW motor, and offers a range of 350 km. Measuring 4,306 mm in length and 190 mm ground clearance, it also includes premium features such as a panoramic moonroof, dual-section tailgate and heated/ventilated memory driver’s seat.
