KATHMANDU: Geely’s affordable electric hatchback, EX2, known as Xingyuan in China, has become the country’s best-selling EV, surpassing Tesla and BYD models.
Launched in October 2024, it has quickly gained strong market traction.
In the first half of this year, the EX2 overtook the BYD Seagull (Atto 1) and Tesla Model Y in sales. It has now reached 500,000 cumulative deliveries in just 14 months, cementing its position as China’s top-selling EV.
The key factor behind its success is pricing. The EX2 starts at around USD 9,700 and goes up to about USD 12,300. It directly competes with the BYD Seagull in the budget EV segment.
The model is built on Geely’s SEA-E platform for affordable EVs. It offers two CATL LFP battery options, 30 kWh and 40 kWh. The smaller battery delivers up to 310 km range, while the larger one offers up to 410 km on the CLTC cycle.
Despite its low price, the EX2 offers features usually seen in higher segments. It gets rear-wheel drive, independent rear suspension, and the Flyme Auto smart cockpit system. The cabin includes a large infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster.

Geely has made some cost cuts, such as manual air conditioning and limited wiper features. However, these have not affected demand.
Since launch, total sales have crossed half a million units. The EX2 is now among the world’s top-selling EVs and continues to strengthen Geely’s position in China’s highly competitive electric vehicle market.
For Nepal, the updated EX2 could become a future option. Geely EX5 Pro and EX5 Max are on sale in Nepal. It is expected to enter the Nepali market soon under the name Proton e.MAS 5.
