KATHMANDU: The construction of the main structure of Gwarko Overpass on the Ring Road has been completed. According to government officials, the overpass will be open to vehicles within the next few days.

Dr Bijay Jaisi, the director general at the Department of Roads (DoR), told MeroAuto that the construction of the core structure has been completed. “The main structure is done. Now, we are working to open it for vehicular traffic as soon as possible,” he added.

The overpass stretches 540 meters in total and includes a 35-meter-long bridge along with a 505-meter ramp. The ramp extends 320 meters from Gwarko intersection toward Koteshwor, while the remaining 185 meters head toward Satdobato.

Deep Barahi, chief of the Quality Research and Development Center at the DoR, said only some minor finishing works are remaining. “Once the dividers are installed and other final touches completed, the overpass will be opened for vehicles,” he added.

Built under the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model, the project was executed by the RC/Samanantar/Religare JV for Rs 176.88 million. The EPC model requires the contractor to handle all stages from design to delivery.

Once operational, the overpass is expected to ease traffic congestion in the Gwarko and Koteshwor corridors of the Ring Road, thereby reducing travel delays and enhancing road safety.
