KATHMANDU: The Narayanghat-Muglin road has been closed indefinitely following a massive dry landslide near Tuinkhola of Chitwan district.

The landslide that occurred at around 4:55 pm on Tuesday have left thousands of passengers stranded on either side of Tuinkhola.

Security personnel say the area has become highly unstable as debris is still sliding from above.

Stating that there is a risk of the road collapsing further, the Division Road Office, Bharatpur, has said that it is impossible to estimate how long it will take to reopen the section. The office has advised people to use alternative routes until further notice.

The 36-kilometer road is a vital corridor that links East-West Highway, which spans the breadth of Nepal, with the capital city, Kathmandu, via Prithvi Highway.
