KATHMANDU: The government has fixed the right-of-way of the Muglin-Anbu Khaireni section of the Prithvi Highway that is currently undergoing expansion.
A cabinet meeting held on September 27 determined the right-of-way of the section, according to Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel.
The Anbu Khaireni–Pokhara stretch of the highway is being widened into four lanes. However, work on the Muglin–Anbu Khaireni section has stalled because its right-of-way has not been determined.
The newly approved alignment will run parallel to the existing highway on the Gorkha side, from the opposite of Muglin Bazaar (across the Trishuli River) toward Anbu Khaireni
One of the main hurdles was the presence of the Marsyangdi Hydropower Project’s powerhouse along the Muglin–Anbu Khaireni section. Since it was not possible to expand the road section into four lanes due to the presence of the powerhouse, the cabinet has decided to build a parallel road on the opposite side of the Marshyangdi River to bypass the powerhouse.
According to Kharel, the newly approved alignment will run parallel to the existing highway on the Gorkha side, from the opposite of Muglin Bazaar (across the Trishuli River) toward Anbu Khaireni. It will be 30 meters wide.
Meanwhile, the expansion of the 80 km Muglin–Pokhara stretch of highway is in its final stage. While work has been completed on the Anbu Khaireni–Jamune stretch, construction on the Jamune-Pokhara section is progressing rapidly.
