KATHMANDU: Nepal imported 1,002 electric cargo vehicles between January and October 2026. The figures show that electric vehicles are gradually gaining ground in the light commercial vehicle segment, although ICE vehicles continue to dominate the market.

After passenger cars and light commercial microvans, electric vehicles are also increasing their presence in the light commercial segment used for transporting goods.

Electric cargo vehicles are now being used in urban areas, the Terai, hill markets and accessible mountain districts. However, their presence remains almost negligible in areas with poor road conditions.

Import figures for the first 10 months of 2026 show that KAMA has established a strong lead in Nepal’s electric pickup market. The brand imported 546 units during the period, accounting for nearly 55% of the total market.

Sold by Mega Motors, KAMA offers different options for goods transportation, including container, pickup and refrigerated models.

Foton ranks second in the segment, with 143 electric pickups imported during the 10-month period. Distributed by MAW Vriddhi, Foton holds around 14% of the market.

CG Motors’ Radar pickup ranks third, with 100 units imported. The electric pickup offers seating for five passengers along with a dedicated cargo space.

Similarly, Sipradi Trading imported 82 units of the Tata Intra EV pickup. Another 30 electric pickups entered Nepal under the DFAC brand.

Central imported 26 units during the review period, while Maxus, which offers double-cab electric pickups, brought in 20 units. Meanwhile, 18 units of Switch-branded electric pickups were imported.

The remaining 37 units came from various other brands.
